I suppose it does have some uses, but they appear to be very few. Regardless, if not performed for the purpose of medical aid, I feel it loses even those. Creating a hole in the skull for the purposes of relieving pressure or treating cranial hemorrhaging may be called trepanation or craniectomy, but if no such intent is present, then...
